Knurled pin application

When the sawtooth on the knurled pin is compressed by inserting it into the hole, it will produce a force to fix the fastener in place. Compared with the grooved pin, the radial force of the knurled pin is more evenly distributed around the diameter of the hole. This is because the contact point between the knurled pin and the hole is more than that of the grooved pin. When the material is softer and more malleable than the pin material, the teeth can pull out of the mating hole.
