A pivot pin is a pin with a special end configuration (such as a spherical end) that allows this feature to be used as a cam profile, such as a locating pin.
A stop pin is a pin with a mechanical feature that prevents movement before the feature is released. A simple example is a pin with a spring-loaded ball pressed into a hole along its length. The pin cannot be removed until the ball is pressed into the pin body, so that the pin can slide freely.
