Ball and roller retainer assembly

The ball and roller retainer assembly usually consists of a retainer made of molded plastic or stamped metal and a rolling element (ball, roller, or both).

The function of the holder is to keep the ball/roller in the opposite direction (so they won't get together). Pocket design is key. The ball and roller must be easy to assemble, but must also be firmly fixed to avoid falling during normal operation. However, in order to function properly, they need to roll freely.

In many ball and roller holder assemblies provided by Hartford Technologies, there are step sizes.

This allows the bearings to operate in races that do not require the use of precise or expensive processes. Examples of this include the form of stamped races or metal rolls as bearing races and precision ground races. There are many versions of the ball and roller retainer assembly, only the diameter of the rolling element is different. The retainers can be color coded (plastic) or have an easily visible part number (stamped metal) to distinguish them. Hartford Technologies designs and manufactures customized equipment for assembling these step cage components. View our assembly equipment video.
